Key Box Program

The Villa Park Fire Department offers a Key Box Program to provide first responders with a secure and efficient way to access your home during an emergency. This program is especially helpful for residents who may require frequent medical assistance and are unable to easily answer the door.

By installing a key box, emergency personnel can enter your home quickly without forcing entry or causing damage. After providing assistance, responders will ensure your home is properly secured before leaving.

How the Program Works

• A secure key box is installed at your residence 
• Your house key is placed inside the locked box 
• Only authorized emergency personnel can access the box 
• Responders use the key to enter during an emergency 
• Your home is relocked once assistance is complete 

Key Box Installation Options

Key boxes are designed to be simple and secure. They can be:

• Placed over the top of a door 
• Attached to a door handle
• Permanently mounted near an entry point 

If you are able to install your key box, please fill out the form below, and we will contact you for the code. If you need assistance, personnel are available to help with installation.

Purchasing a Key Box

Residential key boxes are available for purchase at most hardware stores or through online retailers. Both over-the-door, door handle, and mounted options are acceptable.

Free Temporary Key Box Program

(Limited Availability)

The Villa Park Fire Department offers a limited number of key boxes for short-term use at no cost for residents who meet certain criteria.

Eligibility includes:

• Individuals with a history of medical conditions who live alone 
• Residents recovering at home after a hospital stay 
• Individuals using a medical alert pendant or home alert system 

These key boxes are intended for temporary use and are distributed based on availability.
