Prior to signing a lease or purchasing property, you should contact the Community Development Department, 630-433-4300, to confirm that your business use is permitted at that location, and to discuss any site limitations.

If you are leasing or purchasing an existing space or building, you may want to contact the Permitting Division to schedule a pre-inspection of the property to determine whether improvements are necessary, or possibly to bring the building into compliance with the Village Code. This pre-inspection fee is $50.

Finally, you will need to obtain a Certificate of Occupancy prior to starting business from the Permitting Division.

Location is important to consider when opening a business. The zoning of the property must be checked to ensure that the proposed use meets Village zoning requirements.

A Certificate of Occupancy is an approval that the business space and use complies with the Codes and Ordinances of the Village. This certificate is required before the building can be occupied, and is not transferable to another location, or another business .
